Welcome to Wild Waters

This is for the sea-folk: a journal of ocean swimming, environment, art, science, and collaboration.

If you’ve ever dived into the ocean with delight or felt a yearning for its wide horizon, if you’ve gasped at the sight of an octopus or sat in the sand and let the salty breeze blow the cobwebs from your mind—if you long to protect the sea you love—you’ve found your home.

The mermaid behind the words

Hi there, I’m Katie. I write Wild Waters.

I’ve been a swimmer all my life - both pool and ocean - and am enchanted by the underwater world. When I was a kid I desperately wanted to hang a fishing net from my bedroom ceiling and fill it with flotsam and jetsam and beachcombing treasures - I wanted to live under the sea. Understandably, my dad said no and I’ve been carting the ocean around with me in other ways, ever since.

My journey to this newsletter has happened in the form of blogs (at least three), studies in creative and copy writing, a self-published family memoir, short stories, and shortlisting for the Westerly Writer’s Development Program. This is combined with qualifications in Agricultural Science and Design.

Wild Waters is a fusion of all the elements of my passions and professions, and I hope to be able to bring you whimsical tales of ocean swimming and adventures, mixed with the reality of our marine environment.
